Keeping Portland Weird: Urban Iditarod

Interior design is what I love the write about the most - but here and there I like to sprinkle in little tidbits about my life. I hope y'all don't mind!

This weekend is the Portland Urban Iditarod. Quite easily the most fun event I've ever been to in my entire life. (Child birth was great and all but...)

I snagged this description of the event from their website:

"In the Alaskan Iditarod, more than sixty dog sled teams race across the frozen tundra from Anchorage to Nome. In our urban version, teams of 'dogs' lead by a musher will pull their sleds (shopping carts) through some of Portland's most scenic areas. These teams of barking humans must negotiate through the unrelenting and unforgiving dangers of Portland's urban frontier. As an incentive to run, dogs and mushers alike will have several 'rest stops' to replenish lost fluids and discuss tales of mayhem. The course is over four miles, so dogs and mushers alike need to be ready and able to run their tails off."

So in a nutshell, you steal a shopping cart and run around the streets of Portland dressed in a team theme drinking beer all the while. Seriously, do a google image search and you will die laughing. It's hilarious. It's chaos. It's so totally Portland.

Last year our theme was My Little Pony. People peed their pants over it! Here I am in the white, 15 months pregnant I might add (notice I'm the only one not drinking):

This year our theme is "Put a Bird on it" so ya know, we're a bunch of birds. I'm not going to lie, I wasn't as excited about this year's costumes, but they are turning out to be pretty adorable. We're sticking with the one solid color look so the pictures will be as fun and bright as last year. I can't wait to show you! Stay tuned for pictures...

  1. Hey Adi,
Oh my- this is what makes Portland so fun/funny!

I've had so much fun getting to know you through our Alt class. As a result I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger award.

You can check out the post here, and hopefully you'll have as much fun with this as I did.

  2. So sad I am missing it this year! Darn Pilates!
I always think that Nunez and Lauren look like each other here....Like Lauren is Nunez and Nunez is Lauren! Look closely and see what I mean....it might be Lauren's eyelashes that do it.
    Have so much fun!
